Decolonist Flag I
Decolonist Flag I
naturally dyed string and native Australian plants
2015

You can hear breathing
Your own breath and someone else too
As you breathe together
A layered and merging landscape appears
Two spheres sit amongst the trees, earth and leaves
These spheres slightly overlap

You have been walking
As you walk the landscape changes
You come across a clearing
In this clearing
The sun is warm against you skin
The world has become still

This is a place to sit
Be still
And breathe
You know this clearing you have found
You have been here before
You know it is not always this peaceful
Grief lives here
Anger lives here
Deep shame lives here
And still
Love never left

When we meditate
We are able to slowly unlearn
What we have been taught
We are able to slowly learn the truth
We are able to slowly take our place on this earth
When we meditate
We decolonise our bodies

You can hear breathing
Your own breath
And someone else too
As you breathe together
A layered and merging landscape begins to fade
The two overlapping spheres fade too

You have been walking
Now it is time to leave the clearing

As you walk the landscape changes
