With the Tides
With the tides incorporates riparian plant Yalhirri (Cyperus vaginatus) collected near Iremugadu (Roebourne, WA), with the detritus of colonisation: metal objects scavenged from tip shops and roadsides near West’s home in Noongar Ballardong Boodja (Country). These objects carry the story of mining and resource extraction from Ngurra, especially iron ore, and the resulting destruction of land and waterflows. West’s weaving process, shaped by chance encounters with materials and constant problem-solving, reflects a pace of production that moves with Ngurra (Country).
